The Executive Chairman of Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon Samuel Mariere, has joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 International Day of Peace, calling for collective efforts to instill the values of peace and tolerance through education.
In a message to mark the day, the SUBEB boss noted that peace is the bedrock of social progress and sustainable development. He emphasized that schools play a vital role in shaping children into ambassadors of peace.
“Education is the most powerful foundation for building a peaceful society. By teaching our children values of respect, empathy, and nonviolence, we are preparing them to become responsible leaders and peacemakers of tomorrow. Here in Delta State, we remain committed to raising children who will champion peace, unity, and progress in their communities and beyond,” he stated.
Hon. Mariere also commended His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his sustained efforts in promoting peace and stability through the M.O.R.E Agenda, which emphasizes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
“His Excellency’s M.O.R.E Agenda has further strengthened the foundations of peace and security in Delta State and this is directly impacting basic education positively. When there is peace, schools function better, children learn in safe environments, and teachers are motivated to deliver quality education,” he added.
Hon. Mariere urged parents, teachers, community leaders, and education stakeholders to support both the State government’s peace efforts and SUBEB’s commitment to building a culture of peace through education.
World Peace Day, also known as the International Day of Peace, is observed every year on September 21. It was established by the United Nations to promote global ceasefire, harmony, and cooperation among nations.
