
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects for armed robbery and kidnapping, and recovered one pump action gun and one black Toyota Camry car with registration. No. SMK 835 FC during their arrest.
In a statement on Tuesday, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that operatives of the police command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, arrested the suspects on September 24.
Ikenga stated that the suspects, all males between 22 and 40, were identified as Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam, and Onyebuchi Udemba, were arrested in Aguleri, Anambra East LGA of the state.
The statement read in part, “Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of September 24, 2025, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Aguleri and arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly involved in armed robbery and kidnapping in the area.
“The suspects, all males between the ages of 22 and 40 years, include: Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam, and Onyebuchi Udemba.
“During the operations, one pump action gun and one black Toyota Camry car with registration. No. SMK 835 FC were recovered.
“To this end, while the suspects are still undergoing interrogation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirms the command’s commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place in the State. He further urged members of the public to continue to provide timely information to the Police to aid in the fight against crime.”
According to him, the case shall be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigations.
Meanwhile, the state police command on Tuesday rescued a kidnapped victim along the Oba/Ojoto area in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, seven hours after he was kidnapped by gunmen.
Our correspondent gathered that the victim was abducted by armed hoodlums at the Umuru Village, Nnobi and thereafter demanded a ransom of N10,000,000 only.
The PPRO, SP Ikenga, stated on Tuesday that the Joint Command Tactical teams, acting on an intelligence-led operation, rescued the victim.
He said the victim was rescued unharmed, debriefed, and has since been reunited with his family, adding that operatives are currently working on some clues for the possible arrest of the fleeing hoodlums who fled into the nearby bush after a hot chase.
The statement read in part, “Following a swift and coordinated operation by Joint Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command Tactical Team in the early hours of today, September 30, 2025, a kidnapped victim was successfully rescued at Oba/Ojoto area, seven hours after he was abducted by armed criminals at Umuru Village, Nnobi.
“The criminal elements had earlier demanded a ransom of N10m only. Consequently, the Joint Command Tactical teams, on an intelligence-led operation were immediately deployed to the location for aggressive and extensive combing.
“Under the pressure of the advancing rescue operation, the kidnappers hastily released the victim and fled into nearby bushes. The victim was rescued unharmed, debriefed, and has since been reunited with his family.
“Meanwhile, the operatives are currently working on some clues for the possible arrest of the fleeing hoodlums.’
Ikenga added that the CP commended the operatives for their swift action and reassured Anambra residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime, protecting lives, and ensuring public safety.
PUNCH Metro had reported in August that the Anambra State Police Command foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued three victims in separate operations across the state.
During the process, the police also arrested a notorious member of a proscribed armed separatist group and recovered arms and other incriminating items.
