It was an atmosphere of warmth and mutual respect on Tuesday as members of Rotary International, led by the District Governor, Rtn. Anthony Osaretin, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Abeke at the council secretariat in Sapele
The visit, which brought together top government officials and leading Rotarians from across Delta and beyond, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the humanitarian organization and the local government in driving community development.
Commending the chairman for his “giant strides” in fostering peace, good governance, and infrastructural growth in Sapele, Rtn. Osaretin said the council’s enabling environment had made it easier for Rotary’s impact projects to thrive.
He listed some of the club’s past interventions, including tree-planting campaigns, beautification and maintenance of the Sapele Cenotaph, and billboards promoting polio eradication, noting that these efforts were made possible through supportive leadership at the local level.
In the spirit of Rotary’s service to humanity, the visiting team also donated two wheelchairs to aid physically challenged persons within the community — a gesture that drew heartfelt appreciation from the council chairman and his team.
In his response, Hon. Abeke thanked the Rotary International team for their continued commitment to uplifting lives, describing their humanitarian services as “a beacon of hope for communities like Sapele.”
He assured the District Governor of the council’s full support in all Rotary-driven initiatives that align with the local government’s vision for inclusive growth and social welfare.
Those who accompanied the District Governor included business mogul and former President of Rotary Club of Sapele Urban, Chief Randy Okotie, and the newly installed President of Rotary Club of Sapele, Rtn. Hon. Churchill Ayomanor, alongside several distinguished Rotarians.
Also present with the council boss were the Vice Chairman, Council Secretary, Chief of Staff, Supervisors, Head of Protocol, and other political appointees, all of whom expressed delight at the club’s continued partnership in driving community progress.
