The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced a major reshuffling of teachers and the distribution of iPads and tablets to enhance digital learning and efficiency across primary schools in the State.
The announcement was made by the Executive Chairman, SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, during a physical screening and verification exercise at the Oshimili South Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Asaba, which supervises 26 primary schools.
The comprehensive physical screening and verification exercise, which commenced on September 18, 2025, covers teaching and non-teaching staff across the 25 LGEAs in the State. According to the Board, the exercise is not a witch-hunt, but a means to authenticate staff records and ensure accountability under the State’s Universal Basic Education System.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Mariere said the verification is designed to strengthen the education system and ensure that teachers are strategically positioned to be most effective.
“This verification exercise is to ensure that every teacher and staff member is properly documented and positioned where they can be most effective. It is not intended to punish anyone but to remove ghost workers and to strengthen the basic education system,” he said.
He further announced a major transfer and reshuffling of teachers across primary schools, stressing that the move is aimed at placing teachers where they can be more proactive and productive.
On plans to integrate technology in classrooms, Hon. Mariere revealed that iPads and tablets will be distributed to teachers within the next three months, gradually replacing handwritten lesson notes to make lesson delivery more efficient and modern.
He also advised staff who are too sick to continue serving to apply for compulsory retirement, assuring that such cases would be handled fairly and with consideration.
Hon. Mariere emphasized that these initiatives are in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, which seeks to maximize opportunities, raise standards, and enhance educational outcomes for children in Delta State.
Reacting to the announcement, the Education Secretary of Oshimili South LGEA, Mrs. Oputa-Otutu Alannah, commended SUBEB and the State Government for the initiative:
