A man identified simply as Ghenero has been stabbed to death by a yet-to-be-identified man during a fight over a debt in the Iyara area of Delta State.
A police source told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the incident occurred on the night of October 12 after a disagreement between the deceased and an acquaintance who accused him of owing money from a business deal.
According to the source, the suspect, accompanied by his friend, confronted Ghenero at his residence to demand payment.
The confrontation degenerated into a fight, after which Ghenero was stabbed in the process.
“The incident happened on the night of October 12. A man called his friend to attack Ghenero because of a certain business they had together in which his share was not given to him. They went to his place, and while asking for the money, the confrontation led to a fight, and Ghenero was stabbed in the process,” the source disclosed.
The police source further stated that the perpetrators fled the scene, adding that the incident was not unconnected to an Internet-based business.
A social media user, Leen Thomas, also hinted at the incident in a Facebook post seen by our correspondent on Tuesday.
“One of them is a member of the Vikings confraternity, while the other belongs to the Jew confraternity. The clash started over a money-related dispute. The Jew member had an issue with the Baggar and sought help from members of the Eiye group to fight, without explaining what had actually happened,” he wrote.
In a video seen by PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, the deceased was seen lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a text message sent to our correspondent.
“Confirmed. Investigation is ongoing,” he stated.
The incident adds to the growing cases of cult-related killings and violent confrontations in parts of Delta State where disputes linked to money or rival groups frequently escalate into deadly attacks.
PUNCH Metro on October 9 reported that a suspected cult attack resulted in the death of a teenager identified as Rama in the Ibusa area of the state.
