The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old herbalist, Amechi Okwuokenye, and his 26-year-old stepbrother, Smart Okwuokenye, for the gruesome murder of two victims, including one of the herbalists clients, in Owa-Alidima, Ika North East Local Government Area.
According to Police reports, 22-year-old Friday Liberty had visited the herbalist on September 30, 2025, but never returned home. After weeks of searching and failed assurances from the herbalist that he would spiritually help locate the missing man, the victims family filed a petition at the Agbor Area Command on October 14, 2025.
Detectives launched an intelligence-led investigation and discovered that the herbalist was the last person seen with the victim. Surveillance was mounted on his shrine, leading to his arrest on October 23, 2025, where he was found hiding inside a refrigerator.
During interrogation, Amechi confessed that he and his brother kidnapped both Liberty and the motorcycle rider, Isioma Ugbeje, who had conveyed him to the shrine. They demanded a ₦10 million ransom but, after failing to secure payment, killed both men and dumped their bodies in a soakaway pit near the shrine.
Police have since recovered the decomposed remains of the victims, now deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has assured residents that justice would be served, reaffirming the Commands commitment to sustaining the fight against violent crime in the state.
