The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect in Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata Local Government Area of the state for armed robbery and defilement.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly invaded a shop in the same community on October 29, with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe and stole the sum of N30,000.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ikenga added that the command will arraign the suspect in court on November 19, 2025.
He said the suspect wore a red polo shirt which he fashioned into a face mask and abducted a 13-year-old girl, took her to a nearby bush, where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The statement read in part, “Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Unit, Awka, with the assistance of the local community security outfit, arrested one Chigbo Umeugokwe, male, 20 years old, of Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata LGA, on 11th November 2025.
“The suspect allegedly invaded a shop in the same community on October 29, 2025, with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe.
“He was said to have worn a red polo shirt which he fashioned into a face mask and abducted a 13-year-old girl, took her to a nearby bush, where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. The suspect also allegedly carted away the sum of ₦30,000 from the shop.”
Ikenga said that during interrogations, the suspect made a voluntary confessional statement, adding that some exhibits were also recovered from him, such as a locally made single-barrel gun, one small axe and one red polo shirt used as a face mask.
“He will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, as part of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and bringing offenders to account,” the statement added.
PUNCH Online in October reported that the Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the 33 Police Station, in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit, arrested a 23-year-old female suspect and an accomplice in an armed robbery and kidnap case.
Ikenga, who disclosed it in a press statement, said the suspect was arrested in the early hours by the security team after recovering a snatched Toyota Highlander SUV of a victim in Ogidi, Idemili North LGA of the state.
He said the victim was double-crossed by five armed men operating in a Toyota Corolla car at Nkwelle GRA Gate.
He added that the suspects forcefully placed the victim in the boot of his vehicle and drove off to a bush in Umuoji Town, where they dispossessed him of his phone and transferred the sum of ₦24million.
