The Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Vincent Oyibode, has appealed to leaders, stakeholders, and youths of Egiegi Community to uphold peace, unity, and respect for elders as key pillars for sustainable development.
Oyibode made the call on Wednesday, 26th November 2025, during a meeting he convened in his office at the council premises, with the community’s leadership in response to reports of rising acts of disrespect by some youths toward elders of Egiegi.
Expressing concern over the development, the Udu Council Chairman described the behaviour as unacceptable and warned that such tendencies could disrupt the peace and stability of the community if not properly checked.
‘The youths must learn to respect their elders. Let us avoid fighting. The law of karma still exists,’ he cautioned. ‘The people of Udu entrusted me with leadership because they desire peace and development. A good government is one under which people can sleep with their eyes closed—one that promotes peace, rule of law, and community cohesion.’
Reaffirming earlier resolutions on Egiegi leadership matters, Oyibode announced that the suspended President of the Community, Chief Avwaekerho, will resume office on December 29th, 2025, upon completion of his suspension. He noted that at that time, the Acting President and incumbent Vice President, Mr. Austine Jogor, is expected to formally hand over the administration to him.
The Chairman also advised Chief Avwaekerho to adopt a renewed spirit of cooperation and work harmoniously with all stakeholders, emphasising that unity and mutual respect remain essential for lasting peace in the community.
Oyibode commended the Acting President, Mr. Austine Jogor, for providing effective leadership and recording notable developmental progress within a short period. He described him as a dedicated administrator whose contributions have fostered stability in Egiegi.
In their separate remarks, elders of Egiegi Community expressed appreciation to the Chairman for his prompt intervention, which they acknowledged helped avert a potentially serious crisis. They applauded Oyibode’s leadership style and prayed for continued wisdom as he pilots the affairs of Udu Local Government.
The meeting concluded with leaders, elders, and youths reaffirming their collective commitment to sustaining peace, unity, and progress in the overall interest of the Egiegi Community.
