Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Honourable Mofe Edema has re-iterated the Board’s resolve to effectively push for a cleaner Delta State.
Hon. Edema gave this revelation following a successful budget defence before the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Environment, in Asaba.
The DSWMB boss emphasized that the board was able to record success in their set goals in the fiscal year in view of the support from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
According to the law that established the Delta State Waste Management Board key among the mandates of the Board are to manage waste i.e. clear waste on major streets, roads, residence and business concern; acquire and maintain dump sites across the 25 LGAs.
The Board is also empowered to engage Private Sector Participants in the area of waste management.
In order to ensure that Deltans obey waste management laws, the Board embarks on periodic enforcement exercises.
Also, as part of its mandate, the Board engages in enlightenment and sensitization of the public on the need to keep their environment clean.
Edema assured that the Board would do more in the coming fiscal year
