Former Governor of Delta State , Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deliberately and courageously steering Nigeria toward a more sustainable and stable economic future, despite the initial challenges associated with ongoing reforms.
Okowa made the assertion on Monday in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Uromi Junction Flyover, performed by Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
In a heartfelt address, the immediate past governor explained that it was not his usual practice to attend commissioning or groundbreaking ceremonies after leaving office, but said the Agbor project touched him deeply and compelled his presence.
“I bless God for what I am seeing here today. What is happening in Delta State gives me peace, and that peace is because Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a good man who has continued to do the right thing,” Okowa said.
He praised Oborevwori for sustaining cordial relationships, remaining faithful to trust, and translating plans into tangible projects across the state, noting that the scale and spread of infrastructure development under the current administration were clear evidence of purposeful governance.
The former governor specifically commended the N59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover project, describing it as monumental and impactful, and stressing that it was not the only major project ongoing in Delta North.
He listed other key projects, including the Ugbolu – Okpanam Road valued at about N30 billion and the Aboh–Akara concrete road project, saying they underscored the administration’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development.
“Indeed, Deltans should celebrate Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He has a huge basket of projects, many of which have moved from conception to reality,” Okowa said.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the governor, Okowa said the peace he enjoys as a former governor is rooted in Oborevwori’s leadership style, sincerity, and commitment to continuity.
“When the vision was born and I spoke about it in December 2021, some thought I was joking. When it began to manifest in 2022, others thought I was crazy. But I knew God spoke. Today, Governor Oborevwori is proving God right, and that makes me very proud,” he added.
Turning to national issues, Okowa urged Nigerians to objectively assess the efforts of President Tinubu, insisting that the economic reforms being implemented are already yielding positive results.
“People may choose not to acknowledge it, but the truth is that Mr President is engineering the Nigerian economy in the right direction,” he said.
Drawing from his experience in public administration, Okowa noted that states and local governments across the country are now paying salaries more regularly, while pensions and gratuities previously owed are being cleared.
According to him, these improvements are direct outcomes of the federal government’s economic policies.
He also commended Governor Oborevwori for aligning Delta State with the federal government, describing the decision as bold, strategic, and beneficial to the people.
“Politics aside, Mr President is leading Nigeria towards a more sustainable future. There may be some pain at the beginning, but in a few years, the results will be evident, even while he is still in office,” Okowa said.
He concluded by praying for continued peace, wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Oborevwori, while expressing optimism about the future of Delta State, Ika Nation, and Nigeria at large.
“It is well with Nigeria. It is well with Delta State. It is well with Ika Nation,” he declared.
