The Delta State Police Command has recorded major security breakthroughs across the state, including the foiling of a planned kidnap, recovery of arms and ammunition, arrests of murder and cult suspects, and seizures of illicit drugs.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, said the successes followed sustained intelligence-led operations and continuous raids on criminal hideouts and black spots across the state.
“During my maiden Officers’ Conference, I directed all Area Commanders, DPOs and Tactical Commanders to sustain ongoing raids of criminal hideouts and to remain resolute in the discharge of their duties of protecting lives and property,” the CP said. He added that officers have also been charged “to be civil, courteous and professional,” warning that while the Command will not tolerate criminality, it will also “deal decisively with any erring officer who brings the Force into disrepute.”
Among the major breakthroughs was an operation on January 17, 2026, in Ughelli, where operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) engaged suspected cultists in a gun duel after acting on credible intelligence. One suspect, who sustained gunshot injuries, was arrested and later died in hospital, while others escaped. A Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered.
In another operation on January 11, 2026, the police, in collaboration with community vigilantes, foiled a planned kidnap at a bush along the Upper Agbarho area of Ughelli North Local Government Area. The suspects fled after exchanging gunfire with operatives, abandoning an FNC rifle with ammunition and a pump-action gun loaded with cartridges.
The Command also recorded the arrest of a suspected cultist and armed robber, Gift Ojulowo (30), at Ubeji, with a locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges. According to the police, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity.
On January 19, 2026, operatives of the Raiders Unit arrested two suspected armed robbers at Isheagu and recovered a double-barrelled gun and six rounds of live cartridges. The same unit also arrested a 45-year-old woman, Joy Ezeni, at Ogwashi-Uku, with one hundred wraps of weed suspected to be “loud.”
In a related development, the police arrested one Obi Ndubuoso (43) on January 8, 2026, and recovered 36 bottles of nitrous oxide, popularly known as “laughing gas.”
The Command also confirmed the arrest of a murder suspect at Ogwashi-Uku, where a 20-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death in his sleep by his brother, Aliyu Haman, after taking substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
Reacting to the incident, CP Adesola said, “The growing rate of murder cases and drug abuse among our youth is worrisome. The death at Ogwashi-Uku was avoidable. The suspect is a chronic drug addict, and under the influence of drugs, he stabbed and killed his own brother.”
He disclosed that within the period under review, the Command recovered 11 firearms and 80 rounds of ammunition, arrested 11 murder suspects, 13 suspected cultists, one rape suspect, and recovered one stolen vehicle.
“The Command under my leadership will not relent in the fight against the sale and abuse of illicit drugs. I have ordered massive raids across the 25 local government areas of Delta State to ensure that all drug cartels are brought down,” the CP vowed.
While assuring residents of adequate security, CP Adesola appreciated the Delta State Government for its continuous support and urged members of the public to “support and cooperate with the government and the police in the fight against crime and criminality.”
