The federal government and former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah, have sought the consent of an FCT High Court to explore a plea bargain in the allegation of corruption.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, on Thursday informed the court that the office received an application from Oduah seeking a settlement in the allegations under Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Defence lawyers, Tobechukwu Michael (SAN) and Wale Balogun (SAN), both confirmed the move and the agreement to seek an adjournment to explore the option.
Consequently, Justice Muazu Hamza fixed March5 for the report.
The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation had arraigned Oduah and her former aide, Gloria Odita, on five-count charges bordering on advance fee fraud and conspiracy through Broad Waters Resources from the Federal Ministry of Aviation worth N2.4 billion.
She was said to have fraudulently claimed in 2014 that the money was for the cost of technical supervision.
Oduah was also alleged to have collected the sum of N1.6 billion and N839 million through the same means, contrary to Section 8 of the Advanced Fee Fraud.
The former minister and her aide, however, denied the charges and had been granted bail.
