Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the Delta State Government, has sustained its education reform drive with the commencement of another strategic capacity building programme for teachers across the State.
The five-day residential workshop, scheduled to hold from Monday, 23rd February to Friday, 28th February, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. daily, will take place at Gares Place Hotel, No. 174 Ughelli/Patani Road (beside AJ Eatery), Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The training, titled “Curriculum Development and Processes,” focuses on improving curriculum administration and pedagogical skills.
It is aimed at developing the capacity of teachers to effectively analyse and utilise the curriculum to improve learners’ day-to-day activities in the classroom using appropriate teaching approaches to achieve learning outcomes. A total of 250 teachers, drawn from the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State, are expected to participate.
This latest intervention forms part of a series of ongoing professional development initiatives designed to strengthen teaching practices and reposition the basic education sector for improved learning outcomes.
By equipping teachers with modern instructional strategies and practical classroom methodologies, the Board continues to reinforce its commitment to learner-centered pedagogy.
Participants will undergo intensive sessions focused on curriculum interpretation, instructional planning, classroom engagement techniques, assessment processes, and effective teaching methods to enhance pupils’ day-to-day academic performance.
Speaking on the initiative, the Executive Chairman Delta SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, reaffirmed the State Government’s unwavering commitment to continuous teacher development as a cornerstone of its education reform agenda.
He emphasized that investing in teachers’ skills remains critical to achieving long-term improvements in learning outcomes.
Also speaking, the Director, Teacher Professional Development, Mrs. Eru Ezefili, said, “This workshop focuses on improving curriculum administration and pedagogical skills. It is aimed at developing the capacity of teachers, to improve the learners’ day-to-day activities in the classroom using appropriate teaching approaches to achieve learning outcomes.”
She added that the workshop aligns with national standards and global best practices, emphasizing that strengthened teaching skills directly translate into improved classroom experiences for learners.
The Board encourages all selected teachers to attend punctually and actively engage in the sessions to maximize the impact of the programme as the State continues to deepen reforms within the basic education sub-sector.
