The Delta State Government, in line with its policy of meaningful development through the construction and rehabilitation of roads, had embarked on the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Emu- Obodeti-Abbi-Abraka road to ensure ease of traffic and safety of residents.
This was highlighted when the Commissioner for Works, Highways and Urban Roads, Comrade Reuben Izeze inspected the completed 32.55km rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Emu-Obodeti-Abbi-Abraka road from Emu-Obodeti junction to Abraka, Ndokwa West and Ethiope East Local Government Areas respectively.
The Commissioner said that the contractor had successfully executed the job given to them which, according to him, is the rehabilitation of failed sections and scarification of totally failed sections of the 32.55km road.
He noted that the contractor, as a way of showing more commitment to do more, went beyond his scope of job.
“Where we just came from is additional work that the contracting firm discretionarily decided to embark upon. They wanted us to see their level of commitment, that they are also part of the Government.
“Therefore they carried out additional work to make this junction, which has a chequered history of failing repeatedly, to make it at least motorable, pending when the Federal Government that already has an existing contract will come and do their own job,” he said.
Izeze emphasized that the extra job was done at the discretion of the contracting firm to ameliorate the suffering of commuters.
He added further that it would help to save man-hour that was hitherto wasted at the failed junction of Abraka.
He enjoined the student community, residents of Abraka and environ to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori towards actualizing his mandate.
