As part of efforts to improve on its revenue collection processes and to seamlessly shore up set targets, the Delta State Internal Revenue Service has charged tax collectors and staff of the Service to adopt the culture of collaboration, teamwork and pragmatic approach to the revenue generation business in order to push the boundaries and achieve the set targets.
The call was made by the Executive Chairman of the Service, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, at a one-day Inaugural Management Meeting with Executive Directors, Directors, Tax Officers, Motor Licensing Officers as well as Stamp Duties Officers across the twenty five Local Government Areas of the State, which held at the Conference Hall of the Service’s headquarters in Warri.
Hon. Ighrakpata called on tax collectors to “adopt the culture of collaboration and teamwork, dedication, consistency, innovative thinking, open communication and pragmatic approach to the revenue generation business to enable the Service to push the boundaries and achieve the set targets.”
Earlier, the Revenue Boss had applauded the Service for the landmark performance in respect of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collections in the 2025 fiscal year, which exceeded the estimated budget by 151.01%, a performance which is unparalleled in the State.
According to him, ” Against the IGR collection target of N134, 092,848,109.00 (One Hundred and Thirty-Four Billion, Ninety-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Forty -Eight Thousand, One Hundred and Nine Naira) in the 2025 budget estimates, we generated the sum of 202, 487, 494, 875. 67 (Two Hundred and Two Billion, Four Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Five Naira and Sixty-Seven Kobo) or 151.01% Performance.”
But he was quick to point out that, “In spite of its landmark success, the Service will not rest on its laurels especially with the IGR target set at N250 Billion in the 2026 budget estimates, based on which, administratively, a set target of N260 Billion has been distributed among the Tax Offices, Motor Licensing Offices and Stamp Duties Offices
It was in the light of the set targets that the Chairman further charged the tax Collectors to “be willing to do what they have not done before in order to achieve what the Board had not achieved.”
He further stated that the visible landmark projects executed across the State by the Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has served as a major source of encouragement to taxpayers who can see their tax monies being judiciously used for their overall benefits, emphasizing that, “This has not only help to engender the culture of voluntary tax compliance but also eased the burden of revenue collection and enforcement on the part of the Service.”
Furthermore, Ighrakpata stressed that, in order to significantly improve revenue generation in this fiscal year, the Heads of Stations should ensure “The full implementation of the provisions of the Tax Laws that came into effect this year, ensure the full engagement of staff in their respective offices in order for them to put in their fair share of efforts needed to assist the Board in achieving the set target for the year, continuous sensitization and education of taxpayers within their respective tax districts on the need to perform their civic responsibility of prompt payment of taxes, fees, levies and charges to the State Government as enunciated in extant laws and, the speedy processing of tax files and service of relevant notices.”
In his part, the Executive Director, Operations, Dr. Frank Nwogu frowned at the issuance of fake number plates which, according him, has become recurring and shall henceforth be handled with drastic measures.”
Highpoints of the meeting was the presentation of cash awards by the Revenue Service boss to the first best three performing Motor Licensing Officers and the best three Performing Tax Officers and the best performing Stamp Duties Officers for 2025.
