The Labour Party in the federal Capital Territory FCT has insisted that it won the territory’s Senatorial and House of Representatives seat fairly and without any manipulations.
The FCT chairman of Labour Party Chief Peter Diugwu who addressed newsmen in Abuja called for calm and appealed to those who lost to accept defeat in the National Assembly elections, in good faith.
Chief Diugwu congratulated Labour Party’s FCT senator elect, Hajiya Ireti Kingibe and her House of Representatives counterpart for, AMAC/Bwari federal constituency, Mr. Chinedu Obika, on their landslide electoral victory.
He, however, alleged that some rival political parties were pressurizing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to upturn the victory of Hajiya Ireti Kingibe in their favour.
According to him, agents of the parties were frequenting the FCT office of the electoral body with a view to having the election results which had already been announced to be reversed.
He said, “We are advising INEC to do the needful and leave the Labour Party candidates as the winners.
“We advise candidates of other political parties that lost the National Assembly elections in the FCT to accept defeat in good faith.
“We are asking INEC not to yield to their quest or to act funny by going behind to tamper with results announced,”
Chief Diugwu said the outcome of the National Assembly election demonstrated the confidence and trust of the people in the overall manifesto of Labour Party.
He emphasized that the LP was not in any alliance with other parties for the Saturday’s governorship and States Houses of Assembly elections.
