
17 suspects were arrested for various electoral offences during the just concluded House of Assembly election in Anambra State.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, who presided over election security in the state, made this known to newsmen in Awka.
The interview was to get an update on the five suspects arrested in Ihiala on the election day.
According to the Police Commissioner, 15 out of the suspects were apprehended for various offences including attempt to snatch ballot boxes, attempt to disrupt election, threat of violence among other crimes.
Mr Adeoye said two other suspects who were arrested for flouting the restriction order on movement were in custody for driving with fake presidency number plates.
The Police Commissioner said that the 17 suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department to ascertain what their motives and sponsors.
The Supervisory Commissioner of Police assured that the suspects will be handed over to INEC for persecution after investigations, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
