Around 1.5 tonnes of cocaine from a Sierra Leone-flagged ship has been seized at the port of Kamsar, by the Guinea government.
A statement by the ministry of defence on Wednesday says more than 60 bags, each containing 25kg of cocaine were discovered in the hold of a vessel by the navy during a routine patrol on Sunday.
According to the statement, all 10 crew were arrested.
Between 2019 and 2022, a minimum of 57 tons of cocaine were seized in or en route to West Africa, according to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Drug smugglers have often used West African countries as transit points to ship cocaine from South America to Europe.
