
An 18-year-old mother has been granted bail on compassionate grounds by Warri Custodial Centre popularly known as Okere Prison two weeks after delivery.
The Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, on Monday granted bail to Beauty who delivered via caesarean section after an appeal from the Deputy Controller of the Warri Custodial Centre, Edo Joseph Lucky.
Beauty due for delivery was rushed to Warri Central Hospital and the baby was placed in an incubator for a week before being reunited with the mother in custody, he explained.
Mr Lucky further explained that the prison authority spent N1,000 per hour for the incubation which prompted an appeal to the Chief Judge.
The Chief Judge generously gave Beauty Obi N20,000 and granted her bail of N250,000 with one surety requiring an affidavit and National identity Number (NIN).
Beauty expressed gratitude to the Judge and explained that she was with her boyfriend at a stolen phone sale location when the police detained both of them.
She added that she had no idea how her boyfriend got the phone and that the armed robbery charges against her was false.
