
The chairman, Kano Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC), Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado says, the commission is investigating various cases of corruption, to bring perpetrators to book.
Barrister Muhyi, made the indication during a one day public dialogue, on anti corruption crusade in Kano state.
According to him, PCACC would not relent in it’s efforts, of reducing corruption to the bearest minimum across the state.
The chairman stressed that, the commission has jurisdiction to investigate corruption cases, from all walks of life such, as the one involving a former commissioner, as well as the alleged former governor Ganduje’s dollar video.
The immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje was in 2018, allegedly shown in videos collecting wads of dollars as a bribe.
“We have a forensic arrangement with an expert to analyse the video and would do everything possible to investigate the matter and any other issue regarding corruption in Kano.” He noted.
Also speaking, the chairman Nigeria union of journalists Kano chapter, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim highlighted that, the role of the media in fighting corruption cannot be over emphasized.
He described the dialogue as apt, as one of the best ways to fight corruption, is to expose wrong doings, as it undermines the development of the society.
A lecturer with the department of economics, Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education Kumbotso, Dr Abdulsalam Muhammad Kani pointed out, the two major factors responsible for corruption, which are lack of proper investigation and open tolerance by the society in terms of corruption.
“We are lacking the political will and societal enlightenment to pursue accountability and good governance”
The co-chair Kano Open Government Partnership (OGP), Hajiya Halima Ben Umar, said the dialogue would serve as a platform to look into reality and bring back the lost glory of kano.
Others who spoke include representatives from PWDs, civil society organizations, media, academia.
The event tagged: a one day public dialogue on anti corruption crusade in Kano: was organized by Kano Open Government Partnership (OGP), in collaboration with Kano anti-corruption institute.
