The Super Falcons will on Monday take on Ireland in their last group match to book a place in the knock out stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The Super Falcons defeated tournament co-host, Australia in their second match 3-2 in an all thrilling match as the Nigerians needed the victory to stay alive in the much coveted tournament.
The victory ignited the spirit of the Nigerian team who entered the competition with complaints of welfarism of the team, match bonuses and unpaid salaries owed the coach.
Most people had lost hope with the controversy surrounding the commitment of the players who threatened to boycott the tournament but their overall display has been impressive.

Super Falcons drew their first match against one of the tournament’s favorite’s and Olympic Champions, Canada as they played one of their best matches in recent history with Nigeria’s goal keeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie saving a penalty to cap a fine display to earn a deserved draw.
The Super Falcons came into the second match even more determined as they came from goal down to beat Australia 3-2 with goals from Uchenna Kanu, Osinachi Ohale and Asisat Oshoala proving more than enough to earn the victory.
Although Ireland, their next opponent have been knocked out of the competition already, the Super Falcons will need to avoid a defeat to qualify for the next round as a draw will see them go through the group stages and a comfortable victory will keep them top of the group.
A yellow card for some of the girls in today’s encounter would spell trouble, potentially rendering them unavailable for the subsequent game.
The Super Falcons are in a great situation ahead of their last group game.
The Nigerian ladies will secure a coveted spot in the Round of 16 if they earn at least one point in the encounter against the Republic of Ireland.
