
Ahead of Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo State governorship election, Connected Development(CODE) an election observer group has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure efficient deployment of logistics for a hitch-free polls.
During his speech at the presentation of the Uzabe, a citizen-led election report in Abuja, Hamzat Lawal, the Executive Director of CODE, said the importance of timely delivery of election materials, proper transportation means, and effective resource management in reducing delays and potential interruptions of the election process can not be over emphasised.
Lawal also suggested that these measures would facilitate voter participation by ensuring that polling units are equipped with sufficient ballot papers and voting machines for a convenient voting process.
He expressed confidence that proper logistics would minimize the risk of election malpractice, promote transparency, reduce disputes, and ultimately lead to credible polls.
The Executive Director explained that the organisation would support INEC by deploying trained election observers to Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo to monitor the election and send real time situation reports from local governments in the states.
Mr Emmanuel Njoku, the Director of Democracy and Governance for CODE, has called for further reforms in elections to incorporate technological advancements that can modernize and streamline the electoral process.
Njoku emphasized the importance of such reforms in enhancing the democratic process, fostering equal opportunities for political participation, and ensuring that election outcomes accurately reflect the will of the people.
