The Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has quashed the petition filed by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) challenging the victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule as the winner of the State’s Governorship election, for lacking in merit.
The three-man tribunal sitting in Lafia and chaired by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi also dismissed NNPP’s preliminary motion of non-qualification of the Nasarawa State Governor filed by the candidate of the Party, Abdullahi Maidoya for lacking in merit.
Delivering the verdict, one of the members of the panel, Justice C. A. B. Onaga said the petitioner failed to prove his petition against the governor after dumping his documents at the tribunal.
The NNPP candidate had on 7 April approached the tribunal to challenge the declaration of Abdullahi Sule as winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State by INEC.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on March 20, 2023 declared Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election in the state for scoring the highest votes during the polls.
He was re-elected for a second term in office after securing, 209 votes to beat his closest contender, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 283,016 votes while Abdullahi Maidoya of the NNPP had 11,726 votes.
