Ojo said this in a recent interview with media personality, Daddy Freeze.
Mr Olalekan Ojo, a lawyer representing Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has said that those investigating the death of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, will not find anything linking his client and a music promoter, Samson Balogun, also known as Sam Larry, to his death.
Ojo said this in a recent interview with media personality, Daddy Freeze.
SaharaReporters had reported that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, during a press briefing on Friday, said Naira Marley and Sam Larry were indicted for bullying and assaulting Mohbad during his lifetime and had been remanded while the investigation continued.
Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, has generated controversy leading to an investigation by the police.
The police also exhumed his body and conducted an autopsy on him, as part of the investigation.
There have been allegations that he was assaulted by Naira Marley, who is the founder of Marlian Music, the record label that formerly signed late Mohbad, and Sam Larry.
Speaking with Daddy Freeze, Ojo said, “As for Naira Marley, I believe very strongly that no matter how hard you look, you will not find a single incident where Naira Marley bullied him.
“As for Sam Larry, what I understand, speaking to his lawyer and speaking to him directly, is that on that fateful day in June 2023, he came to Elegushi Beach for something else, and as soon as he walked into that scene where he heard some musicians were shooting video somewhere around the Beach, being somebody involved in promoting music, he wanted to know who was involved in that activity.
“To confirm that he did not know that it was Mohbad, as soon as he got there, from the video, the first thing that came out of his mouth was, ‘Imole, it is even you, you will not go home today.’
“Immediately he said that, Zlatan got up, trying to stop him from approaching Mohbad. That video is a nine-second video. There is a longer version of that video.
“That longer version of the video shows these guys eating Amala together shortly after that incident. Sam Larry was wearing the same clothes he was wearing during that video shoot and Mohbad was there but I think Mohbad had changed his clothes. That same day, they went and ate Amala together.
“I expect that Zlatan will come out and clarify this issue because we know what he said to people including Davido as it relates to that incident. He was specific as to whether or not Sam Larry did anything to Mohbad on that day.”
He further noted that “in Mohbad’s petition to the police in Alagbon, he made very strong allegations”.
He said, “One of the allegations he made was that the equipment that was to be used for recording the video shoot was destroyed by Sam Larry and his boys and that equipment cost N5 million.
“He further alleged that there was N8 million that he paid for the purpose of the entire shooting.
“The question should be, if the equipment for shooting the video was vandalised by Sam Larry and his boys, you will not be able to carry out that activity that day.
“But that video was shot that day. They completed the shooting that day and they have since rolled out that video and have been making benefit from that video – the same video he said that the equipment was vandalised.
“He said he paid N8 million, we said he should bring the account he paid the money into, or was it cash? Name the person you paid the money to. These were the issues that rose in Alagbon when the police called him to interrogate him and to substantiate your petition.”
According to him, “Sam Larry went to Alagbon three times, wrote a statement and on the third occasion after inviting Mohbad to come and substantiate the petition and he didn’t come, Sam Larry’s lawyer was forced to do a counter-petition alleging that Mohbad made false accusations to the police.”
