
Over the years the management of pension scheme in Nigeria have been affected by diverse problems and many Retirees have suffered untold hardship due to delay in payments of benefits.
However, for retirees in Kaduna State, there is glimmer of hope, as the state government earmarks 3.1 billion naira for payments of retirement benefits
The list by Kaduna State Pension Bureau has 1,051 Beneficiaries for the payment of gratuity and death benefits for State and local government retirees in both the Defined Benefit Scheme DBS and Contributory Pension Scheme.
The Executive Secretary of the Bureau, Professor Salamatu Idris Isa at a news briefing in Kaduna explained that, the beneficiaries are from both state and Local Government council retirees as well as families of deceased, which amounted to 2.6 billion Naira.
She said the State had scheduled the list of 331 beneficiaries amounting to 1.2 Billion naira while Local Government has 542 beneficiaries amounting to 1.4billion Naira.
According to her, the sum of 500 million Naira was allocated to beneficiaries in the Contributory Pension Scheme CPS, with 178 beneficiaries of State and Local Government Council.
Verification of Beneficiaries
Professor Salamatu Idris Isa pointed out that all verification payment exercises will commence next week at various Headquarters of the 3 Senatorial zones of Kaduna State as part of processes of final payment of benefits to the beneficiaries.
She assured the beneficiaries that, the payment principles is about first come, first served, stressing that, delay in sighting names on the list for verification payment exercise will not amount to missing of file.
Professor Isa emphasized that, no single file will go missing over gratuity or death benefits.
“People complaining about their names or files missing may not understand the workings here. We have been paying gratuity and benefits, and as I said earlier we have a principle of payment which is first in, first served
“If we bring out list is based on first in, first served. Everybody’s turn will come as we continue with the verification exercise. No file is missing in actual sense of it.
