Former footballer Cesc Fabregas, who played for Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona, has been appointed as the temporary manager of Italian team Como.
Fabregas, aged 36, will take on his first senior managerial role after replacing Moreno Longo.
Previously, he played 17 matches for Como in Serie B last season, and after retiring from football, he moved on to become the coach of their youth and reserve teams.
According to a statement from the club, Como aims to embark on a new path that will bring more excitement and entertainment to their fans, noting that a permanent appointment will be made in the near future.
Fabregas’ debut as manager will be at home against Feralpisalo on November 25, following the international break. Currently, Como is placed sixth in the table, with 21 points from their first 12 games.
In August 2022, Fabregas joined Como after leaving Monaco, and he also became a shareholder of the club, alongside his former teammates Thierry Henry from Arsenal and Barcelona.
During his career, Fabregas played 212 matches in the Premier League for Arsenal between 2004 and 2011 before he moved to Barcelona, where he had been a part of the club’s La Masia academy since the age of 10 in 1997.
After spending three years with Barcelona, he returned to the Premier League in 2014, this time with Chelsea, where he played nearly 200 games, and later joined Monaco, where he made 68 appearances over three and a half years, but his playing time was limited due to injuries.
