Journalists have gathered at the New Covenant Church in Akure to thank God as part of activities marking the 2023 press week of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council.
The journalists, who were elegantly dressed, sang melodious songs to God, thanking Him for the gift of life.
In an exhortation, the lead Pastor, Reverend Rotimi Fagboyegun, stated that the situation in the country was cause for concern and that there was a need for behavioural change.
Reverend Fagboyegun who took his sermon from Matthew 5:13, said Nigerians must stand for what is right regardless of whatever situation they find themselves in.
Earlier, a former Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olarewaju Akeredolu charged journalists to be fearless in the course of performing their duties.
Justice Akeredolu said that despite the current economic challenges, journalists must subject all information available to them to proper scrutiny as well as shun all forms of manipulation and exploitation.
On behalf of Ondo State journalists, the vice chairman of NUJ, Mr. Hakeem Gbadamosi thanked God for the safety of all members of the Union.
Mr. Gbadamosi acknowledged that the journalism profession was challenging in that most often journalists step on toes, but despite this, they must be guided by the truth.
