Everton Football Club has officially appealed against the decision to deduct 10 points from their Premier League total due to financial rule violations.
The club has presented their appeal to the Premier League’s judicial panel, which will appoint an appeal board to oversee the case. Although Everton acknowledged their breach, they expressed their shock and disappointment at the severity of the punishment.
The appeal process is expected to be completed before the conclusion of this season.
In a statement, Everton said, “Today, Everton Football Club has submitted an appeal to the chair of the Premier League’s judicial panel regarding the decision made by a Premier League commission to deduct 10 points from the club.”
According to BBC Sport, the club has not been informed of the reasoning behind the 10-point deduction by the independent commission.
Everton believes that a penalty affecting their sporting performance is unfair for surpassing financial limits.
The appeal will be reviewed by a panel, which will evaluate the commission’s ruling, scrutinize the process, and determine whether the penalty was impartial. As a result of the points deduction, Everton dropped from 14th place to 19th in the Premier League standings.
A three-man independent panel convened by the Premier League opted to deduct 10 points from Everton for violating the competition’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
