“Every one of us cannot be an expert. If we have given someone an assignment, let us allow them to do it. If they cannot do it, then we find a way to quickly get them out of the system”
I can’t even say for fact if i am happy or sad, that for once as a country, as a people we are all agreeing to say one thing.
The current state of things in the country is one that has seemingly brought about ‘one voice’ amongst all, as nobody is keeping quiet about it anymore, not even the President who everyone presume is the result of the current national predicament.
It has become a pricking situation where nobody can boldly claim they are not affected by the national issues at hand, regardless that they have the capacity to meet up with the hike in price of commodities or having the avengers as security guards to keep them and their family safe from the insecurity that threatens the society and farmlands. The state of things in the country is virtually affecting everyone across all strata in the economy and social class of things, as it’s like an injury on one’s feet which literally makes the whole body uncomfortable. This narration perhaps is how everyone is affected should the states of the nation be explained in the context of how pain is felt in the human-anatomy.
Although, despite the penury in the county, I must still commend our leaders; our legislators, traditional rulers and also the governors thus far, for their significant role, as none of them have been silent about the matter at hand and everyone is literally speaking up of the concerns and plight of their respective people and offices. This, however to the objection earlier made by the Independent Media and Policy Initiative (IMPI); which has accused a number of state governors of shirking their constitutional responsibility by expecting the federal government to solely carry the burden of easing the current economic situation, which is worsening the situation.
The IMPI insisted that the increased revenue shared to Governors as a result of petrol subsidy removal has not reflected in the lives of Nigerians residing in the states. This further did chairman of (IMPI) Niyi Akinsiju, said that states having benefitted from higher revenue inflows from the federation account as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy, the state governments have to do more for the people in their respective domain.
I guess the fact of this accusations must also be put into question, as it’d be hypocritical for governors to openly speak out for the peoples plight whereas proper accountability of FAAC allocation were misappropriated by them.
Thus, the pain of the nation demands quick interventions as till date meetings of meetings are been held by the President and legislature in a bid to find remedies to rising cost of food items, insecurity and other economic issues. And these acts alone can only prove that honest attempt and working ideas are deployed by our leaders to find answers to the crucial suffering.
This in one of these high-level strategic meeting on climate change, food systems and resource mobilization held in Abuja recently, did the Vice President Kashim Shettima made it known that there shall be a move to regulate food prices. Shettima explained that the board would be given the mandate to assess and regulate food prices, as well as maintain a strategic food reserve for stabilizing prices of crucial grains and other food items.
However, on Thursday’s 15th, the President said he won’t set up a price control board or approve the importation of food items anymore, as his administration would use home-grown solutions to address the nation’s food security challenges. This he said “We should be able to get ourselves out of the situation we found ourselves in, because importation will allow rent seekers to perpetrate fraud and mismanagement at our collective expense.”
Also, in their own intervention; the House of Representative are also considering taken a major step towards replacing the current presidential system of government being run in Nigeria with the parliamentary mode. This is as the House introduced three bills seeking to alter the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to transition from the current presidential system to a parliamentary system at all levels – federal, state and local government. The proposed alterations, they believed when passed, would significantly impact the national political landscape. As its believed to bring workable solution to the present hardship that is been experienced in the nations governance.
These did the sponsors of the bill in the House of Representative asserts that the bills presented seek a return to the system of government adopted by our founders, which made governance accountable, responsible and responsive, and ultimately less expensive. And these perhaps appear to be what we currently need as a nation, where there is accountability, responsiveness and a cut of cost in order for the economy to be stabilized.
However, in a country where some sectors are made to seem most dominant than others, a lot of trolls has majorly been on the CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, Minister of Finance Wale Eden, Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari and Ministers of Defense. Which shouldn’t be so In anyways.
As a lot of Nigerians allege of the inadequacy from those four sectors as the root cause of why the economy is where it is presently, also as they lament that they are less performing to revive back the economy. This however, it is but important to know that these sectors respectively can not totally influence a change or bring remedy to our nation but a collective effort by all ministries and sectors in the country can.
President Tinubu in his recent address to the nation assets that; every member of his cabinet possess the qualification and capacity of their offices, and in no reason does he dictate or project contrary implementations that are brought before him by the experts of the various field. “Every one of us cannot be an expert. If we have given someone an assignment, let us allow them to do it. If they cannot do it, then we find a way to quickly get them out of the system”.
This perhaps bespeak that Tinubu and cabinets are neither soft nor idle about their respective offices but are working round the clock to be effective in delivering results that is best for the nation. I believe in this administration, I believe in Tinubu, may God give our leaders the wisdom to make Nigeria great.
