Six persons were crushed to death in Sapele as a truck carrying sugarcane fell on them due to the failed road portion at Amukpe roundabout.
An Eye witness recounted that the six persons were in the truck before the accident and they jumped out of the truck to escape the accident but unfortunately, the truck fell to the same side that the persons jumped to, crushing them to death.
Sapele residents have raised concerns about the danger of the failed road portion at Amukpe roundabout as a result of this accident, calling on authorities to quickly come to the aid of road users and save lives, especially at this portion.
Fabian Otolo, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, testified that accidents occur at that spot on a daily basis without any death recorded until this incident and called on the government to quickly take necessary action as lives are in constant danger at that spot on a daily basis.
