In response to the plea of citizens and residents of Sokoh Estate Road, off Airport Road, Effurun, the Sokoh Estate Link Road, once a notorious hazard for residents and motorists alike, is now undergoing a significant transformation with the Delta State Government deploying resources in men and machine to reconstruct the road and adjoining drainage systems.
This major thoroughfare, which connects the Airport Road to Jakpa Road and extends towards Warri-Sapele Road and Egbe Layout, has long been notorious for its dilapidated condition, presenting a perilous challenge for users.

For years, the road’s state had been a critical concern for local residents and commuters. Its numerous potholes and deteriorated surface had made it a hotspot for criminal activities, particularly at night. Hoodlums and kidnappers were known to exploit the road’s poor condition, setting up ambushes at its treacherous spots. Motorists were frequently targeted for theft, with many recounting harrowing experiences of having their valuables stolen at gunpoint.
Mrs. Josephine Ojo, a local resident and business owner along the Sokoh Estate Link Road, shared her relief and satisfaction with our reporters. “The road was a major worry for us,” she said. “Motorists would avoid it due to the danger posed by the bad spots. Many residents had to rush home before nightfall to avoid encountering criminals.”
However, a notable shift has occurred with the commencement of the road’s rehabilitation. Mrs. Ojo expressed her gratitude towards Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing this crucial infrastructure. “I am thrilled to see the progress,” she added. “Past administrations had overlooked our plight, but Governor Oborevwori has taken decisive action. Some residents even moved away due to the unsafe conditions. Now, with the ongoing improvements, we feel much safer.”
The current phase of the project, overseen by CCECC, a Chinese construction firm, has made substantial progress. The company has successfully completed the drainage installation from the Airport Road axis to the Egbe Layout junction. This development is expected to alleviate the road’s previous drainage issues, which contributed significantly to its deterioration.
Despite these positive changes, Mrs. Ojo and other residents are hopeful that further enhancements will follow. “We would greatly appreciate it if street lighting could be installed along this road,” she appealed to the governor. “Proper lighting would not only improve safety but also help maintain the road’s condition and ensure it remains a secure route for everyone.”
The Sokoh Estate Link Road project marks a significant step towards improving infrastructure in the region and restoring confidence among its users. As work continues, the community eagerly anticipates the full completion of the project and the enhanced safety and convenience it promises.
