
Community newspapers publishers in the state have been charged to fact- check their stories before filing in their reports.
The Chief Job and Wealth Creation Officer, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, gave the charge on Mondaywhen members of the Delta State Community Newspapers paid him a courtesy visit in the Bureau.
He lauded the group for their contribution towards informing and enlightening the grassroots on government’s policies and programmes.
Egwuyenga disclosed that the state government had given approval to the Job Creation Bureau to begin its empowerment programmes.
According to the Bureau Boss, the programmes tagged “MORE Bizup” have been reviewed to include the MORE Business Upscale Programme which is aimed at providing grants and stimulus to MSMEs and beneficiaries of the Delta State Government’s entrepreneurship programmes.
“In the Job Creation Bureau, we have done internal reviews in terms of programmes, operations, targets and expected derivative. His Excellency has graciously approved that we reach out to the teeming youths in the state to be able to give them some stimulus to support their businesses.
“We are looking at reaching out and engaging more rural people at the ward levels in order to stimulate the local economy in the communities. If we succeed, we would have achieved in mitigating rural-urban drift,” he remarked.
He explained that the world was a global space, stressing that the Bureau would promote digital economy and reorientate the youths that business couldbe done anywhere without moving to the urban centres,once their products are good.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers and leader of the delegation, Hon. Prince Orhomonokpaye, said the visit was to congratulate him on his well-deserved appointment and to seek partnership with the Bureau in communicating the activities of the office to the grassroots.
Orhomonokpaye emphasized that community newspapers being well rooted in the grassroots are in a better position to promote the MORE Agenda of the present administration among the rural populace.
