The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori, has assured the Delta State Non-Indigene Association of the unwavering support of the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Senator Amori gave this assurance on Wednesday when he received a delegation of the association, led by its chairman, Sir Bernard Agazuma, in Asaba.
In his address, Sir Agazuma congratulated Senator Amori on his appointment, describing it as well deserved. He emphasized the association’s commitment to aligning with the vision of the present administration and contributing to the development of the state.
“We are here to identify with your leadership and to express our desire to be actively involved in the governance process. As non-indigenes, we do not want to be treated as outsiders because Delta State is home to us,” Agazuma stated.
Other members of the delegation, including the South-South Coordinator, Mr. Frank Onyemaka; Woman Leader, Mrs. Lauretta Okocha; Youth Leader, Mr. David Dada; and South-South Leader, Ms. Remy Idu, appealed to the Chief Adviser to accept the role of patron of the association and champion their interests.
Responding, Senator Amori commended the association for organizing itself into a formidable group and assured them that their concerns regarding fair representation would be addressed.
“I appreciate your efforts in uniting non-indigenes in Delta State. No one should feel alienated or treated unfairly, regardless of where they reside in the country. I lived in Edo State for several years, and I never felt like I didn’t belong,” Amori remarked.
He acknowledged the concerns raised by the group regarding their level of representation and promised to ensure better inclusivity in governance.
“There may have been past oversights, but moving forward, we will correct any imbalances. I will personally bring these issues to the attention of the governor to ensure that non-indigenes are given due recognition and representation. I know there are different groups of non-indigenes in the state. I assure you that any gesture given to any group will be passed on equally,” he assured.
Senator Amori encouraged the association to remain united and proactive in advocating for their interests, affirming his readiness to serve as their patron.
“I accept to be your patron, and I urge you to keep pushing forward. Do not be discouraged by past challenges. What has happened is in the past; let us focus on ensuring a better future,” he concluded.
The meeting reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing equal opportunities for all residents, irrespective of their place of origin.
