The Delta State Ministry of Information has pledged its support towards the empowerment of the Girl-Child and Women in Delta as the current Queen of Delta and the 2nd runner up of the Queen of Delta pageant paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner in his office in Asaba.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu gave the pledge on Monday.
The winner of the 2024 edition of the Queen of Delta Pageant, Miss Godsfavourite Ososo and her first runner up, Miss Serena Gogoloh, were in the ministry to brief the Commissioner on the scope of their Pet Projects that centred on Empowering the Girl-Child and Women.
According to the Commissioner, ‘opportunity for all’ is a mantra of the Sheriff Oborevwori led administration and would give all necessary support to ideas that align with it.
Mr. Aniagwu said that the Queens’ pet project would go a long way in helping to reduce prostitution and other vices to their barest minimum as it would lead to self-independence and dignity for such women.
He added that once women are self-dependent it would not only shun vices but would also add value to their families and the society at large.
Also, Aniagwu noted that survival naturally comes through the skills they put to use, the knowledge they seek and how many persons that are taken from the streets, hence the importance and encouragement of the project.
Aniagwu called on relevant ministries such as the ministries of Girl-Child and Humanitarian Services, Culture and Tourism and Women Affairs to lend their own support in actualization of the ideas.
The information Commissioner used the medium to congratulate the Queens for taking the bold steps as he encouraged them to also contest at the national and international levels.
Earlier, Queen of Delta, Miss Godsfavorite Ososo appreciated the Commissioner for the audience as she pleaded for his support towards their pet project targeted at empowering the Girl-Child and Women.
According to the Delta Queen, the empowerment was not only to give out financial assistance to the targeted audience but also to equip them with vocational skills.
