Delta Youth have been called upon to take advantage of the gainful employment and scholarship opportunities offered by the Nigerian Army by enrolling in the 89th Regular Recruitment Exercise for Trade and No- tradesMen and women currently taking place.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu made the call today during a sensitization visit by the Sensitization Team of the Army Headquarters, Abuja led by Brigadier- General Witto Nzidee.
Dr. Emu noted that statistics of enrollment of Deltans in the Nigerian Army recruitment exercises from year 2021 to year 2025 indicated that the State had made steady progress in enrollments in the past while stating that the State will refocus sensitization efforts to improve prequalification of the enrollees.
He said strong synergy has been built with traditional rulers, religious organizations, and Local Government Councils to improve sensitization in order to capture more youths and meet the required quota allocated to the State.
The SSG also expressed the State’s commitment to improving the enrollment outcome by providing free transportation to shortlisted candidates from all three senatorial districts for them to come to Asaba for the screening exercise.
He said the State would rejig efforts towards seeing that more Deltans get enrolled in the ongoing army recruitment exercise.
The leader of the delegation, Brigadier General Witto Nzidee, expressed the mandate of the present head of the Army Administration, Major Gen. Lawrence Fejokwu, who is a Deltan, to re-awaken the need for the State to meet its required quota of enrollees.
He stated that the army offers scholarship education, gainful employment free of marginalization in recruitment, and that officers could progress through the ranks.
He said the State has not been able to meet the required quota of enrollees into the Nigerian army over the years, saying that with the basic qualifications of secondary school certificate, the door of continuous education, national and international training is open in the field of medicine, nursing, engineering, music, among others.
Also speaking, the Commander of 63 Brigade, Asaba, Brigadier-General Ugochukwu Unachukwu warned against pipeline vandalism, oil bunkering, armed robbery and kidnaping, while asking youths to engage in productive activities and the opportunities for gainful employment in the Nigerian army.
The sensitization visit had in attendance top government functionaries and traditional rulers.
The online registration for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake for TradesMen/Non-TradesMen and Women began on 31st March 2025 and will end on the 17th of May 2025.
