The Delta State Government has assured residents of its commitment to reducing maternal and perinatal deaths in the State.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr. Kingsley Emu made this known today during the official launch of the Delta State Maternal, Perinatal and Child Death Surveillance and Response (MPCDSR) Report in Asaba.
The SSG stated that the theme of the event “Improving Maternal and Perinatal Health Outcomes through accountability and actions” was timely and relevant as it speaks to the two pillars that are not just aspirational but essential which is accountability and action.
He noted that maternal and perinatal deaths were not just statistics but a story of a life lost, a family shaken, and a system that could have done better.
Dr Emu equally noted that the MPCDSR report that was being launched serves as evidence and a road map which will help guide government, health professionals, Partners and communities in reducing maternal and perinatal deaths in the State which he said should be used.
He said the Oborevwori’s administration will continue to prioritize the health of women and children not just in words but in budgetary commitments, policy framework, and programmatic interventions.
Present at the event were the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, represented by Barrister Timothy Agbaragu, Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Mininim Oseji, Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board, Dr. Paula Okubor and others
