Youths of Adagbrassa-Elume, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State in Diaspora have rehabilitated two abandoned water boreholes and assisted two blind indigenes of the community with N50,000 each.
The chairman of the group, Comrade Felix Evwihor, who spoke to newsmen from his residence in Asaba, said the gesture to rehabilitate the water projects was in response to a call from the community.
According to him, “we grew up there and we all knew the challenges we went through; hence, our quick response to the call when it came.”
“As a group, we saw it as an avenue to give back to the society as we believe that if well maintained, the water projects would effectively serve the purpose of ensuring regular supply of clean water to our people.”
Comrade Evwihor disclosed that the group was formed in 2021, adding that it had actively contributed to the growth of the community.
He said that the group had over the years repaired the street lights in the community, bought public address equipment for the Catholic Church and other token assistance to all the churches in the community, replaced stolen cables from the transformer and paid for its fixing up in the community for steady supply of electricity.
The chairman appreciated the governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for providing an enabling environment for even development across the state and Comrade Gift Enerho for the formation of the group, just as he showered encomiums on the executives and members of the group for piloting its affairs with all sense of unity of purpose.
“We are able to do this for our community because of the efforts of so many.
“I appreciate His Excellency, the Governor, our community leaders, executives of the group, especially our Vice-Chairman, Comrade Dennis Ohwofasa, the founder of the group and others who have contributed to the betterment of the community in many ways.”
The chairman appealed to youths of other communities to tow the positive path of the group, adding that the government alone cannot do everything the people desire.
“I want to encourage other youths all over the state to give back to their communities as it is part of their responsibilities.
“We all grew up in these places and they are our homes; our communities need our ideas and support as the government alone cannot do everything for us,” Evwihor added.
In appreciation, the youth chairman of the community, Comrade Maxwell Ajagidi appreciated the group for the kind gesture and promised to ensure proper care and maintenance of the facilities.
Also, the recipients of the monetary assistance, Messrs Orodje Ovwero and Israell Abogidi, thanked the group and prayed to God to continue to grant the group the wherewithal to transform the community and render assistance to the needy in the community and beyond.
Meanwhile, Comrade Evwihor used the medium to call on youths in the community who were yet to associate with the group to join hands with it in ensuring the realisation of its objectives.
