The Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, has commended the Udu Council of Chiefs for embracing peace and reconciliation.
Chief Uzor gave the commendation during a joint meeting with Udu Kingmakers and the Udu Council of Chiefs, held at Unity Hall, Government House Annex, Warri.
During the meeting, Chief Uzor read aloud a 22-point resolution arising from a previous gathering of His Royal Majesty, Mike Orugbo, Okporua I, the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, and all Udu chiefs, which took place on June 15, 2025, at the Palace Hall, Otor-Udu.
The resolution, signed by the Ovie’s Executive Assistant, Obruche Odjadjare, was unanimously adopted by the chiefs.
Chief Uzor praised the maturity of the chiefs and the swift action of the new king.
“This was a major test of leadership, and the new king passed it. We will brief the Governor that peace has returned to Udu and the kingdom is united,” he said.
In the resolution, the Ovie pledged to make final pronouncements after hearing all sides of the dispute and warned that anyone who defied his directives would face divine and communal consequences.
He urged all aggrieved chiefs to lay down their grievances and work together for the kingdom’s development.
The Otota of Udu Kingdom, Chief Sam Odibo, expressed joy over the reconciliation:
“We are glad because brothers are now reunited, and we are happy to have peace—the heat is off.”
Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, Chief Andrew Orugbo noted that the matter had been brought to the government’s attention through a petition.
“Today, we are united behind one Ovie, our new king. I thank the Governor, the Delta State Government, and the Special Adviser for this timely intervention,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Chief Vincent Oyibode, confirmed that those who had taken the matter to court had been advised to withdraw their cases.
“Udu is now moving forward. I call on all sons and daughters of Udu to embrace peace,” he added.
A vote of thanks was delivered by Chief Henry Afure Sakpra, who expressed appreciation to the Governor and the peace team, pledging that Udu people would return home in unity and work together for the kingdom’s progress.
