The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating meaningful development across oil-producing states in the Niger Delta region.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, stated this in Asaba, Delta State, at a press briefing held as part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the commission.
“The NDDC was established in response to the developmental challenges facing the Niger Delta. Our mandate is to ensure the region becomes economically prosperous, socially stable, ecologically regenerative, and politically peaceful,” he said.
He said the current leadership of the commission has prioritised the completion of abandoned projects inherited from previous administrations.
“We have made deliberate efforts to revive and complete several uncompleted projects scattered across the Niger Delta. We are targeting legacy projects that were abandoned, and we are pooling our resources to ensure their completion,” Ogbuku said.
He highlighted key interventions carried out under his leadership, including the construction of schools, free medical missions, youth internship schemes, postgraduate foreign scholarships, road infrastructure projects, and the installation of solar-powered lights in underserved communities.
Ogbuku further said the commission is deliberately focusing on rural development to make a tangible impact in the lives of people in remote communities across the region.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Chief Chiedu Ebie, reiterated that the commission is people-focused.
He noted that its strategy involves close collaboration with communities to drive the NDDC to greater heights.
