
The management and staff of Government College, Ughelli, Delta State, has paid a courtesy visit to the Ughelli North Local Government Chairman, Barr. Jaro Egbo, to formally present the winner of the recently organised World Schools Debate Championship Competition which was held in Doha, Qatar, Master Wisdom Chukwuma, to him.
Speaking during the presentation which took place at the Council Secretariat on Wednesday, the principal of the school, Mr. Samson Obor, who led the delegation said, ” We are here today to present Master Wisdom Chukwuma before you and to inform you of his outstanding performance in the recently conducted world school debate championship held in Doha, Qatar. He is a JSS 2 student of Government College, Ughelli. Our very own, so he has made us proud.”
Responding, Barr. Egbo, who was elated, appreciated the management and staff of the school for the gesture, stating that Master Chukwuma made Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State and the entire country proud with his performance at the global stage.
“The bible admonishes us to mourn with those who are mourning and celebrate with those who are celebrating. It’s not a coincidence that Government College, Ughelli, shares a common boundary with Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat, but a divine arrangement by God, and as a government, we will always celebrate excellence,” Egbo stated.
The Council Boss who formally congratulated Master Chukwuma on his brilliant performance with a standing ovation and a toast to more success, graciously approved a scholarship for his secondary school Education. The scholarship covers his school fees, textbooks, hostel accommodation and other fees.
The Council Boss said the scholarship is intended to encourage him to focus more on his studies and perform much better.
Barr. Egbo appreciated the teachers of Government College, Ughelli, encouraging them to continue the good work of impacting knowledge and good moral values on the students.
He further admonished parents and guardians to train their wards to embrace diligence and commitment to their studies, adding that school is not a scam.
