Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, has stressed that statisticians play a crucial role in driving economic growth, as accurate data informs policy and decision-making across all sectors.
Mr Ekedayen made the statement when he received members of the Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria who paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.
He pointed out that “statisticians are essential to the state’s economy and that is why our governor has given the approval for our state to host the planned international conference by the institute
According to him, “a successful conference is our top priority, and my team and I will be working closely together to achieve this goal. With a week-long program planned, we’re committed to making your stay in our state a memorable one.”
The commissioner applauded the team for their remarkable commitment to ensuring statisticians play a starring role in driving the economy, and their efforts are truly topnotch.
Earlier, the president of Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (CISON), Mr. Godday Ebuh stated their visit to the commissioner for Economic Planning is to strengthen their relationship and remind him of the upcoming international conference in September 2025, seeking his support to ensure its success.
Mr. Ebuh lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s outstanding leadership abilities, which have been instrumental in driving growth and development in the state, and have earned him widespread recognition and respect.
The president of chattered institute of statisticians of Nigeria, gave a brief history of the institute and pointed out that the mission of the institute has always been in statistical literacy, capacity building.

Mr Ebuh was positive that Delta State would host a successful week-long international conference.
The high point of the visit was the decoration of the commissioner for economic planning with the Institute’s sash and presentation of the institute’s wishes.
