As Delta State approaches its 34th anniversary, the Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, has called on the state government to issue an Executive Order mandating all residents in Delta to enroll in the state’s health insurance scheme.
Dr. Akpoveta made this call during an interview with the editorial team of the Veracity Magazine, a publication of the Delta State Ministry of Information which showcases the developmental strides of the state government. officials from the Delta State Ministry of Information, who visited his office to assess the Commission’s achievements over the past two years.
He explained that compulsory enrollment would ensure access to quality healthcare for every resident, reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses and strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
Highlighting the Commission’s progress, the DG noted significant strides in expanding coverage, improving healthcare service delivery and enhancing health outcomes for enrollees.
Dr. Akpoveta emphasized that universal participation is essential for the long-term success of the initiative.
He further stated that the Commission remains committed to ensuring equal treatment for all enrollees. To support this, Service Quality Monitors have been deployed to all registered health facilities, pharmacies, and laboratories to oversee the quality of services provided.
He added that the state government’s overarching goal is to make quality healthcare accessible to all Deltans and residents of the state.
“Every government must ensure that all citizens have access to quality healthcare because it is a fundamental human right, not a privilege,” he stressed.
While commending the state government for its commitment to the health sector, the DG reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to achieving inclusive healthcare coverage for all. He underscored the importance of proactive government policies in safeguarding public health.
