The 14-year-old Internally Displaced Chagu Terhemen, who was bitten by a snake on Friday, has died, PUNCH Metro gathered on Tuesday.
Terhemen was going to the farm with his father at Tse Kyomke mbapupuu in Gaambe Ushin Council Ward in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State when he was bitten by a snake.
One of the displaced persons, Terna Ibaah, had on Sunday raised the alarm that the 14-year-old snake bite victim had defied traditional treatment as he began to convulse.
Ibaah, who sent a message to our correspondent on Tuesday morning, declared that the teenager was rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, on the order of the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency and Management Agency, James Iorpuu, on Monday.
He said, “The Benue State SEMA boss, Mr Iorpuu James Aondoakaa, ordered that the boy who was bitten by a snake, be taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital for treatment but he died yesterday (on Monday) night, being September 1, at the hospital.
Ibaah had told journalists on Sunday that about 12 IDPs, including the deceased, had suffered snake bites in Agagbe camps between January and August.
“From January till now, we have recorded 12 victims of snake bite in Agagbe among the IDPs. Fortunately, no one has died,” Ibaah had said on Sunday.
