
Citizens of Delta State have been called upon to engage in activities that would promote an eco-friendly and sustainable environment.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani made the call during the presentation of the maiden edition of the Delta State Environmental Sustainability Award (DSESA), in Asaba.
Congratulating the Awardees, the Commissioner explained that the ceremony was instituted to celebrate individuals, communities, organizations and institutions that have championed the course of environmental protection and sustainability across the state, thereby proving that a better environmental future is possible.
While extolling these individuals in their collective effort in protecting our environment through responsible and deliberate actions of waste recycling, tree planting, clean energy, climate change mitigation and reforestation, the Commissioner encouraged others to emulate them as everyone must have a part to play in protecting our environment.
Mr. Jamani also expressed appreciation to Kegala Environmental Consultancy Limited and Other partners for supporting the Ministry of Environment in actualizing the vision of promoting environmental accountability.
In her Goodwill message, the Head of Service of Delta State, Dr. Mrs. (Mininim) Oseji congratulated the Delta State Government through the Ministry of Environment for instituting the Award and expressed hope that the tradition would be sustained as it could encourage others to join the call to build a cleaner, greener healthier and more resilient Delta State.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of an Award of “Grand Champion of Environmental Sustainability,” to the Governor of Delta State, Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani.
Other Awardees were Chief Dr. Newton Jibunor, who was presented with the “Veteran of Global Environmental Sustainability,” and Engineer Chukwura Chukwuemeka, who got the 3rd position of “Distinguished Environmental Sustainability Champion.”
