In commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, group under the auspices of “Deltans for Peace and Development (DPD)”, on Wednesday staged a peace awareness campaign in Warri and environs urging ethnic groups in the city to put aside rivalries and embrace unity.
The exercise, led by the organization’s founder, Hope Agbajoh, walked through key locations including Airport Junction, Angle Park, and Enerhen Junction, sensitizing residents on the importance of peaceful coexistence.
Their central message was directed at the Urhobos, Itsekiris, and Ijaws in Warri, calling on them to see themselves as one family, stressing that peace is the foundation for progress.
Speaking during the campaign, Agbajoh noted that the drive for peace requires collective effort.“This is not a personal mission. We want everyone in Delta State—our communities, our leaders, and especially the youths—to join hands with us in building peaceful coexistence, because without peace, there can be no development,” she stressed.
The group emphasized that peace is more than the absence of conflict, describing it as the presence of justice, fairness, and mutual respect. It reaffirmed its commitment to bridging divides, fostering trust, and nurturing unity across Delta’s diverse population.
Residents who witnessed the rally applauded the initiative, describing it as timely and inspiring. One resident, Patience Tsoko, said: “Warri needs this kind of message now more than ever. We are tired of divisions. If we can truly live as brothers and sisters, our city will grow and everyone will benefit,” She added.
