
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the Justice system in Delta State through infrastructural upgrades, comprehensive reforms, welfare for judicial officers, accountability and judicial independence armed at ensuring speedy justice delivery and equal access to the rule of law.
Governor Oborevwori made this remark on Monday at the thanksgiving service marking the opening of the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Delta State Judiciary, held at Emmanuel the Saviour Catholic Church, Asaba.
Addressing judicial officers, legal practitioners, and other dignitaries at the event, the governor stressed that an independent and courageous judiciary is essential for the rule of law to flourish and for democracy to thrive.
Speaking on infrastructure provision for the judicial arm, the governor highlighted some of his achievements in the justice sector as evidence of his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for judicial activities, stating that plans are underway to renovate and upgrade smaller courts across the state.
“One of my proudest achievements is the completion and commissioning of the six stories high court complex, this state of the art facility was commissioned in June, 2024, and stands as one of the most modest judicial complexes in the country. It has several court rooms, a digital library, lounges, and conference rooms all supported by e-filing, e-payment and an independent power plant.”
He added that virtual court hearing facilities have been installed in courts and correctional centres across the state and supported with solar power to ensure uninterrupted court sessions.
The governor further stated that plans were underway to install the long-overdue automatic recording system in courts to make proceedings fast and more accurate and less independent on hand-written notes.
“In the same vein, the laws of Delta State have been fully digitised and now, freely accessible to everyone anywhere in the world through the official website of Delta State Government, Ministry of Justice website and the law pavilion.
To ensure accountability and transparency in the system, this administration has put an end to the old practice of arbitrary review of contract sums and variations after agreements have been signed.
The State Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, remarked that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is practically instrumental to the successes and achievements recorded by his ministry in the quest to advance the frontiers of Justice Delivery.
