
The Delta State Government has embarked on the training of drivers, mechanics and Works Superintendents in the state public service for a – 3 day capacity building exercise.
The theme of the workshop was “Driving Safety Techniques / Defensive Driving and Drivers Health.”
The commissioner for Transport, Onoriode Agofure stated that the 3-Day Capacity Building Seminar for Drivers, Mechanics in the State Public Service will help drivers in the state’s public service to improve their driving careers, stating that he had no doubt that the seminar will help them do better.
The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Victor Omoniyi assured drivers in the public service that this engagement would continue to strengthen drivers in the public service to do their jobs better.
He explained that the program will equip drivers and mechanics in the public service with the skills of modern-day driving and safety techniques with emphasis on accident prevention and consistent check on their health.
Agofure urged the participants to give adequate attention to the training given by safety professionals in the course of the capacity building workshop.
He said, “Make yourself available for the medical experts to check your blood pressure and sugar level to make you a better driver for effective service delivery.”
He commended the governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for the approval to train the drivers and mechanics in Delta State.
The resource person, Amb. Felix Nakpodia, said the training focused on the drivers in the directorate of transport in various offices in the public service.
Nakpodia noted that public service drivers needed to be engaged in driving safety techniques that would rekindle their driving careers and prevent them from road offenses and accidents.
