The extensive remodelling of the Warri Stadium is progressing rapidly, promising a state-of-the-art facility ready for commissioning ahead of schedule. Engr. Dr. Goodnews Agbi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit, led his team of engineers on an on-the-spot site inspection. Since taking office, the Special Adviser and his team have demonstrated exceptional commitment to ensuring quality job execution and value for money, in line with the agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Dr. Agbi who began his inspection tour of the facility by checking the invert level of the drains taking water from the stadium to the discharge point confirmed the efficacy of the new drainage systems and noted that there was no residual water along the drains, which means the invert level is very okay.
Dr. Agbi recalled the stadium’s notorious past which included flooding during matches, broken seats, poorer pitch etc. and assured the public that those days were over. “I can tell you now that with the renovation, the stadium has been lifted by 400mm. So, no matter the amount of rain, it would be drained out, including the surrounding. What we are going to have very soon is a brand-new stadium that when you come to watch matches, you will not recognize it.”
He praised the contractors for the efforts they have continually put into delivering a world standard facility ahead of schedule. ” We came specifically to know and we have confirmed that the discharge is very okay, they have worked ahead of scheduled time, and the work is superb ” he said.
The Director General of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA), Godwin Ejinyere, who was also present, pledged to work in synergy with the contractors to establish a maintenance program for periodic desilting of the drains, ensuring the long-term safety and functionality of the structure.
