Two male adults, identified simply as Jonathan and Konto, have been stabbed to death during a suspected cult clash in the Agbarho area of Delta State.
A police source who pleaded anonymity because he lacked the authorisation to speak with the media told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that Jonathan was killed on Tuesday.
“One person was killed on Tuesday. The cause of the attack is yet unknown, but findings suggested that it was a result of a lingering cult attack,” the police source said.
An anti-cultism advocacy group Naija Confra, had in a post earlier disclosed that the attack started on Monday.
It also noted that the second victim, Konto, was stabbed to death in the course of the incident.
“The clash between Maphite and Eiye started on Monday during the watch night of the peaceful Agbarho Ibi Festival.
“Some Maphite members were badly wounded, including their number 1 man in the area, who was hospitalised. Eiye members were also injured, but sadly, one Eiye member named Konto died on Tuesday morning from the injuries he sustained.
“The Eiye members later killed a man named Jonathan, who had recently moved from Warri to Agbarho,” the platform stated.
When contacted on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the death of one person.
“One death confirmed,” he disclosed.
Recurrent cult attacks have left several young men dead and many others injured in recent weeks.
PUNCH Metro reported in October that a carpenter identified simply as Ovoke was shot dead in a suspected cult attack in the Warri area of the state.
