The Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, on Tuesday received the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua, who led an advocacy delegation to his office as part of activities marking the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Speaking during the visit, Ohwovoriole commended the Ministry of Women Affairs for its continuous efforts to protect the rights and welfare of women, children, and vulnerable persons in the state. He noted that the annual global campaign presents an opportunity for governments and institutions to review existing gaps, strengthen response mechanisms, and renew commitments to ending gender-based violence.
Princess Ajudua, in her remarks, said the advocacy visit was designed to deepen collaboration between the two ministries, stressing the critical role of the Ministry of Justice in ensuring accountability, prosecuting offenders, and upholding the rights of survivors.
She emphasized that tackling gender-based violence requires a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach and called for increased awareness, strengthened legal frameworks, and sustained public sensitization.
Responding, the Attorney-General reaffirmed the Ministry of Justice’s readiness to work more closely with the Ministry of Women Affairs in advancing the state’s justice and protection systems.
He assured that the ministry would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving access to justice for survivors, enhancing prosecution processes, and promoting preventive measures across communities.
Both ministries concluded the meeting with a mutual commitment to intensify efforts and develop more coordinated strategies to strengthen Delta State’s response to gender-based violence throughout the 16 Days of Activism campaign and beyond.
